Starter Thad Willis shut out the MSL Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the MSL Cape Coral Hurricanes cruised to victory, 5-0. Willis allowed only 2 hits and rang up 3 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
This year Willis has a 4-4 mark in 12 starts with a 4.06 ERA. He has given up 66 hits in 75.1 innings, struck out 63 and issued 25 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .232 batting average against him.
