Voyagers Heading to Conference Finals: New York catcher Ignacio Encarnacion couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Divisional Series.
"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Encarnacion moments after his club eliminated the Vancouver Vandals to advance to the Conference Finals.
New York won the final game by a score of 4-2 at The Thunder Dome and took the series 3-1.
"We won the series and that's the main thing," Encarnacion said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."
For the series, Encarnacion hit .706 with a .700 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 6 runs.
"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Vancouver manager .
