Vargas Raps Washington for 5 Hits: Jordan Vargas was at the head of a Lake Erie Crushers hit parade today at Sprenger Health Care Systems Stadium. The 26-year-old went to the plate 5 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Washington Wild Things that marched off with the 10-7 win.

"We didn't have it today," griped Crushers skipper Keith Cantwell following the game. "Jordan did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."

Vargas did more than fine, dominating the Wild Things at the plate during his record-making 5-for-5 performance.

"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging center fielder told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

Jordan Vargas doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Omar Rodriguez in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

This season Vargas has banged out 24 hits in 59 at-bats for a .407 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .478 pace and his totals also include 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
