Vancouver Triumphs in Horizon Cup: A celebratory mood filled the air as the Vancouver Thunderbirds closed out the season with a 5-2 victory over the Reno Railers at Barbourmeade Grounds to capture the Horizon Cup, 2-1.

Giving the Railers credit for a hard-fought series, Thunderbirds players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Horizon League champions.

"We felt like this was our year all season long," said catcher J.J. Court, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."

It was the 8th in franchise history. During the Blue Chip Coalition Western Division regular season Vancouver put up a 70-50 record and finished second.

"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Reno manager Jasper Sheehan. "We played good ball, they just played better than us."
