Stead Thwarts Tampa, 5-0: It wasn't easy but Joe Stead made it look that way.
Stead silenced the Tampa Beacons, 5-0, in a Thousand Oaks Rabbits triumph at Spencer Grounds today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Stead said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 2 walks and 1 hit.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."
So far this year Stead has made 17 starts, tossed 117.1 innings, struck out 119 batters and walked 31. His record is 6-7 with a 2.38 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .203 batting average.
