Seattle Takes Wildcard Series in Deciding Game: The fans in Seattle are delirious, while there is little joy to be found in Kansas City.

The Seattle Mariners finished off the Kansas City Royals 9-4 in the deciding game of the Wildcard Series played at Safeco Field.

They took the series 2-1 and will now head to the Division Series.

For his standout play, Seattle first baseman Marty Cruz was voted the series' Most Valuable Player.

He batted .500, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 to lead his club to victory.

"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Cruz and that doomed us," said Royals manager Connor Gould. "Hats off to Seattle, though. That was a great series."

The Seattle Mariners will play against the Houston Astros in the next round. Houston had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
