Schnell Socks It to Trains, Cracks 5 Hits: It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Nick Schnell, it came around today.
The 23-year-old left fielder scattered hits all over Chinooks Ballpark to pace the Wymore Chinooks to a 13-4 victory over the Orange Cove Trains.
Orange Cove skipper Jeremy Caywood told reporters in the press room that "Schnell deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Schnell hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Nick Schnell hit a two-run single in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
Thus far this year Schnell is batting .372 with 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
