Santa Clara Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game: After their 4-2 win today at Rockets Ballpark over the Walkerton Scarlet Knights, the Santa Clara Vanguard will advance to the Round 2. Santa Clara won the series by a 4-3 margin.
Leading the way for the Vanguard was center fielder Armando Martinez, who had a spectacular series and was named MVP.
"I don't play differently in the regular season or playoffs. I just go out and do my best every game," he said. "It's certainly nice to play in the big game, but you can't let it get to your head and change your focus."
The Santa Clara Vanguard will play against the Hartford Defenders in the next round. Hartford won their series against the Vung Tau Vipers 4 games to 3. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
