As it turns out, the El Paso Destroyers are made of fight and tenacity, as the team got by the Indianapolis Salukis 8-4 tonight at Indianapolis Grounds in order to win the Round 1 and book a place in the next round.
"It wasn't hard to get excited for this game," said Gonzalez, whose strong offensive output earned him MVP honors. "Our guys answered the call and proved a lot about what our team is all about."
Gonzalez hit .345 with a .424 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 6 runs.
The El Paso Destroyers will play against the Reading Fightin Phils in the next round. Reading won their series against the Montgomery Biscuits 4 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
