Message:
Red-Hot Velez Scorches Guides: A jubilant Tyson Velez joined the postgame press conference at The Port of Seattle today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Maine Guides pitching staff he had just vanquished.

"It may not have looked like it," said the Seattle Pilots right fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."

That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-9 hitting performance, which led the Pilots to a 6-5 win.

"He made it look easy," said Marty Kennedy, manager of the Guides. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."

Tyson Velez singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th, doubled in the 9th, flied out in the 11th, grounded out in the 13th, singled in the 15th, grounded out in the 17th and grounded out in the 18th.

So far this year Velez is hitting .257 with no home runs.
