Mikel Bangs Out 5 Base Hits: It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Jesse Mikel, it came around today.
The 23-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over JetBlue Park to pace the Toronto (GCL) Blue Jays to a 12-3 victory over the Boston (GCL) Red Sox.
Boston (GCL) skipper Gabe Iles told reporters in the press room that "Mikel deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Mikel hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Jesse Mikel singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and hit a two-run double in the 6th.
For the year Mikel is hitting .294 with 9 home runs. His stats include 25 runs batted in and 36 runs scored.
