Message:
Ligons at His Best, Blanks St. Louis: The St. Louis Pioneers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Pittsburgh Miners. The Pioneers were overpowered by Pittsburgh starter Billy Ligons, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Hugh Luckey said.

Over 9 innings, Ligons blanked St. Louis on 4 hits with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Ligons said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

On the year Ligons has worked 242.1 innings with 123 strikeouts en route to a 15-7 record and 2.75 ERA.
