Guides End Schreiber's Streak: Hartford right fielder Ian Schreiber came into today's game against the Maine Guides on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.

The Guides did their jobs well, beating the Hartford Whalers 8-4 and holding Schreiber hitless to snap his 25-game hitting streak. The 22-year-old right fielder had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-1, telling reporters only that he "came up short."

"What Ian did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Whalers manager Israel Montero. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 25 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

Thus far in 2059 Schreiber is hitting .338 with 17 home runs, 66 RBIs, 52 runs scored and has compiled a .382 OBP.
