Dimas Sensational, 5-for-6: Bakersfield Cannons shortstop Nelson Dimas had a day to remember at Wildfire Ballpark today, ripping apart the Long Island Navigators and sparking the Cannons to a 5-4 victory.
Dimas wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-6. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Dimas told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it." Nelson Dimas singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, hit a two-run double in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 10th. In his stats this season, Dimas has posted a batting average of .343 with 48 hits in 140 at-bats, 2 home runs and 18 RBIs. He has also scored 15 runs, walked 9 times and compiled a .387 OBP.
