Bateman Bangs Out 5 Base Hits: After a 5-hit effort to lead Oregon's 8-7 victory over the Nevada Las Vegas Rebels, second baseman Blake Bateman told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the NCAA-level is really something special."

The 19-year-old player earned his accolades today at Buffaloes Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Rebels.

"His swing is getting there," said Ducks skipper Tom Allen, who spoke glowingly of Bateman after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Blake did that to perfection today."

Blake Bateman singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Martin Trono in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Sherm Gregory in the 8th.

So far this season, Bateman has recorded a .306 batting average with 52 hits, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, 30 runs scored and a .396 OBP.
