Yamaguchi Set to Retire: San Diego Padres second baseman Jutaro Yamaguchi will retire at the end of the season, according to reports out of team headquarters. Yamaguchi, 39, has been considering retirement since last season sources say, though he has declined to speak publicly about retirement.

"Jutaro still likes baseball," one source said, "He wants to play, but he also knows he's getting up in age and the skills are not what he wants them to be. He says it's physically getting harder to go out there every day. That's why he's hanging up his spikes."

For his 649-game career Yamaguchi has hit .251 with 569 hits, 183 RBIs, and 17 home runs.
