Zimmerman Gets No-Hitter Against Bay of Quinte: Leamington Mariners starter Cal Zimmerman said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Zimmerman recalled. The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career. The Leamington right-hander no-hit the Bay of Quinte Herons 4-0 at Leamington Yard, finishing with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts, facing only 31 batters. "I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Zimmerman admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too." This season to date Zimmerman has a record of 9 wins and 5 losses with a 2.66 ERA, has appeared in 20 games and struck out 109 in 132 innings. View Boxscore View Game Log |
