Ventura Shines in 4-0 Gem: "Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.

Daniel Ventura of the New York Yankees proved the point at Yankee Stadium today, holding the Toronto Blue Jays to 4 hits in a complete game shutout victory.

"Ventura made us look real bad today," Blue Jays manager Pete Thomas said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

Ventura had 3 strikeouts and gave up 3 walks as the Yankees took the 4-0 win.

Checking out his stats for the year, Ventura has racked up 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts, 2.79 ERA and struck out 19 batters in 29 innings.
