Tempe Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game: It was a rousing finish to the Round 1 at Tempe Diablo Stadium today.
The Tempe Angels sent the Mesa (OAK) Athletics home for the season with a 5-4 win in the decisive game of the series.
The Angels took the series 3-2. Up next on their schedule is the Championship.
Hauling in the MVP trophy was Tempe shortstop Kevin McGonigle. His numbers included a .312 batting average, 2 RBIs and 2 runs.
"With any luck, I'll be hoisting another one of these at the end of the Championship," he said.
The Tempe Angels will play against the Surprise (TEX) Rangers in the next round. Surprise (TEX) won their series against the Glendale (CHW) White Sox 3 games to 1. The Championship schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
