Pittsburgh, San Diego Agree to Swap: A trade was announced today at a press conference in Pittsburgh. Not satisfied with their current roster, the Pittsburgh Pirates general manager shook things up by acquiring 32-year old SS Andrelton Simmons, 24-year old minor league C Luke Berryhill, and 23-year old minor league 2B George Torgeson from the San Diego Padres for 29-year old LF Garrett Schlecht, 31-year old 2B Kolten Wong, 31-year old RHP Yosuke Ichikawa, and 27-year old minor league C Miguel Angel Álvarez.
"We're a better team now," Pirates general manager Jonathan Hodges said. "We've added several pieces to the puzzle."
This season Schlecht has hit at a .162 clip with 20 RBIs, 7 home runs and 13 runs scored. He has played in 59 games.
Currently Simmons is batting .203 with 47 hits and 1 home run. He has knocked in 16 runs and scored 16 times.
