Phillies Dominate, Sweep Round 1: Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Gulf Coast Rookie League Round 1. It turned out quite a bit different.
The Philadelphia (GCL) Phillies swept aside the Detroit (GCL) Tigers to advance to the Round 2, winning the final game by a 11-3 score at Bright House Field.
The series MVP was shortstop Curt Wooten, who hit .636 with a .692 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 5 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
