Northeastern Baseball League Pitcher of the Year Named: Northeastern Baseball League hitters didn't have much of a chance in the 1961 season when the Erie manager wrote "Larry Slider" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, he held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 15-7 mark and 2.02 ERA in 25 starts, tossed 187.1 innings, fanned 173 and held opposing teams to a .173 average.

For his superb season Slider was today named the NEL Pitcher of the Year Award winner.

He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Tim McDonald of the Elmira Pioneers finished second in voting, while Dick Reinke of the Elmira Pioneers finished third.
