National Baseball League Selects Premier Rookie: The top-ranked rookie performer in the National Baseball League was Brooklyn left fielder John Seidler. It was announced today by league officials that he had been named the winner of the 1959 Rookie of the Year Award.

Seidler chalked up some good season stats, including a .261 batting average and .352 on-base percentage, while racking up 28 home runs, 62 RBIs and 72 runs scored.

Jimmy Trent of the St. Louis Explorers finished second in voting, while Larry Helvig of the Washington Rough Riders finished third.
