Machado Socks It to Atlanta 3 Times: Manny Machado went yard three times in a Washington Nationals victory over the Atlanta Firebirds at Nationals Park today.

"I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."

For the day, the Washington third baseman went 4-for-4 against Atlanta with 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Nationals to the 12-5 win.

"I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out."

Manny Machado hit a solo-shot off Brandon Finnegan in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Brandon Finnegan in the 4th, walked in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Joel Nelson in the 7th.

This year Machado has socked 142 hits in 470 at-bats for a .302 average with 18 home runs. He is getting on base at a .350 pace and his totals also include 75 RBIs and 76 runs scored.
