Hasegawa Whitewashes Mackinac Island, 3-0: The Pointe Pelee Monarchs did little to support starter Yakumo Hasegawa against the Mackinac Island Cougars, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Cougars, striking out 16 and surrendering 1 hit. The performance from Hasegawa allowed Pointe Pelee to escape with the 3-0 win despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said 'Yakumo, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Hasegawa told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
This season Hasegawa has compiled a 4-2 record with a 3.39 ERA in 9 starts.
