Flying Tigers Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire: It went the distance, but the Lakeland Flying Tigers finally disposed of the Daytona Tortugas 4-2 in the series clincher at JetBlue Park at Fenway South.
Winning the finale gave the Flying Tigers the series, 3-2. They will now advance to the Championship.
The Most Valuable Player Award went to Lakeland left fielder Jesús Vargas. He batted .318 in the series, collecting 2 RBIs and scoring 4 runs.
"Jesús deserves it," said Flying Tigers manager Luis Sojo. "He was the glue that held our club together."
The Lakeland Flying Tigers will play against the St. Lucie Mets in the next round. St. Lucie won their series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs 3 games to 1. The Championship schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
