Message:
Explorers Flame Out Against Walakino, Saints: Konanae Walakino of the South Guam Saints was on top of his game today.

The 20-year-old tantalized the Ho Chi Minh City Explorers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 6-0 shutout.

"He had the changeup working," Ho Chi Minh City manager Victor Hoffman said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The South Guam hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 1 hit in his complete-game effort.

Walakino told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This year Walakino has worked 75.1 innings with 85 strikeouts en route to a 2-5 record and a 5.73 ERA.
