Bland Scorches Johnnys for 3 HR: Merrill Bland brutalized the Knoxville Johnnys pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 8-7 victory at The Quarantine. The Mile High Broncos right fielder was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.

"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."

For the game, he went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

"Too much Merrill Bland today," Johnnys manager Ron Shaw said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."

Merrill Bland hit a two-run home run off Sandy Adams in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Sandy Adams in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Sandy Adams in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.

To date, Bland has collected 55 hits for a .342 average. He has posted 14 home runs, scored 44 runs and driven in 38 runs.
